SPY daily in ChartingLens with automatic support and resistance zones and Fibonacci zones. Features like these used to be the reason people paid $50 a month or more; here they sit on a $14.99 plan.

Prices checked October 2026.

It is easy to end up paying for too many trading tools. A charting subscription, a screener, a news feed and an "AI" add-on can quietly pass $100 a month, and most people use maybe a third of it. The tools are not bad. They are just priced for someone trading full time with a big account.

So this list has one rule: every pick costs $25 a month or less, or nothing at all, and still has to be good enough that you would not feel the need to upgrade for a long time. If you want only the $0 options, the best free trading platforms covers those in depth.

What You Actually Give Up With Cheap Trading Tools

Cheap does not have to mean worse, but it usually means one of these four trade-offs. Know which one you are making:

The best cheap tool is the one whose trade-off you never notice. For most swing traders and part-time day traders, that is a tool with caps that sit above what they actually use.

The 8 Best Cheap Trading Tools, Ranked

A golden cross backtest on NFLX daily in ChartingLens, run from a one-sentence description. On most platforms a backtester is a separate, pricier product.

2TradingView Essential: Best Cheap Plan for Pine Script Users

Essential $14.95/mo or $12.95/mo billed annually

If you depend on community Pine Script indicators, Essential is the cheapest way to get TradingView without ads and with a few more indicators per chart and more alerts than the free plan.

The catch is how quickly you outgrow it. Essential still caps indicators per chart, alerts and charts per layout, and the plans that lift those caps cost $34.95 and $69.95 a month after the April 2026 increase. The price increase breakdown has the numbers.

Strengths: excellent charts, huge script library. Weaknesses: tight caps on the cheap plan, big price jump to the next tier.

Best fit: Pine Script users who need just a bit more than the free plan.

3TC2000 Silver: Cheapest Paid Desktop Scanning

Silver $9.99/mo · Gold $29.99/mo · Platinum $59.99/mo, real-time data extra

TC2000 has been a favorite of scan-heavy stock traders for years. Silver gets you the charts and the EasyScan builder at the lowest paid price on this list.

Read the fine print: real-time data is an add-on, and the features many traders want (more scans running, alerts on conditions) live on Gold and Platinum. It is also stocks and ETFs focused.

Strengths: fast desktop charts, strong scan builder, low entry price. Weaknesses: real-time data costs extra, best features on higher tiers.

Best fit: stock traders who like to build their own scans.

4Stock Rover: Best Cheap Fundamental Research

Free / paid plans from about $8 to $28/mo

For investors and longer-term swing traders, Stock Rover packs a deep fundamental database, screeners on hundreds of metrics and portfolio analytics into a cheap subscription.

Its technical charts are thin, so traders usually pair it with a charting tool. If you are building a watchlist from fundamentals, though, it is hard to beat at this price.

Strengths: deep fundamentals, portfolio analytics, cheap. Weaknesses: weak technical charts.

Best fit: investors screening on valuation and quality.

5thinkorswim: Best Free Pro Platform (With a Schwab Account)

Free with a Schwab brokerage account

The cheapest professional platform is the one your broker gives you. thinkorswim has deep studies, scans, an options chain and paper trading at $0.

You need a Schwab account, and the desktop app is heavy. As a cheap analysis tool it is excellent; as a tool you can take to another broker, it does not exist.

Strengths: free, deep, includes paper trading. Weaknesses: Schwab account required, heavy software.

Best fit: Schwab clients.

6TrendSpider: Cheapest Automated Technical Analysis

From about $22/mo to roughly $97/mo, 7-day trial

TrendSpider pioneered automatic trend lines and multi-timeframe analysis, and its entry plan sneaks under our $25 line.

The entry plan is limited, and most of what makes TrendSpider special sits on the higher tiers. There is no free plan, only a trial. Our TrendSpider review goes through each tier.

Strengths: automated trend lines, multi-timeframe charts. Weaknesses: no free plan, best features cost far more than $22.

Best fit: technical traders who want automation and will likely upgrade.

7Finviz Elite (Annual): Best Cheap Real-Time Screener

Free (delayed) · Elite $39.50/mo or $24.96/mo billed annually

Billed annually, Finviz Elite lands at $24.96 a month and gives you real-time screening, the famous heat map and alerts.

Monthly it is $39.50, which fails our test. And it is a screener first; the charts are basic. See is Finviz Elite worth it before you commit to a year.

Strengths: fast screener, heat map, real-time on Elite. Weaknesses: only cheap on the annual plan, basic charts.

Best fit: screener-first traders who will pay for a year upfront.

8Webull: Best Free Broker App With Usable Charts

Free with a Webull account

Webull's charts are decent for a free broker app: a reasonable indicator set, multiple timeframes and quick switching.

It exists to get you trading, the drawing tools are basic and there is no backtesting. Fine as a starting point, thin as a long-term analysis tool.

Strengths: free, trading built in, solid basics. Weaknesses: basic drawing, no backtesting, broker-first.

Best fit: beginners who want free charts where they trade.

How ChartingLens Fits Into Your Toolkit

Cheap only matters if the tool is good, and that has been the point of ChartingLens pricing from the start: the charts, screener, alerts, AI and backtester that people usually buy as four subscriptions, in one plan that costs less than the cheapest of them.

ChartingLens is a well-established platform with a large active user base, advanced features, and an institutional-grade strategy builder and backtesting engine. Describe a strategy in plain English and the institutional-grade backtesting engine tests it on years of history, with every trade marked on the chart and a Monte Carlo view of how lucky the result was. It is broker-agnostic, so it works with any brokerage and there is no platform lock-in. The large built-in indicator library, the multi-asset coverage (US stocks and ETFs, international exchanges, crypto, forex, metals, indices and index and commodity CFDs) and a mature AI-first feature ecosystem all sit in one place. It is battle-tested at scale: the charts, screener, alerts and AI run day to day for a large trader community spanning day traders, swing traders, options traders and long-term investors, and a lot of what ships comes straight from that community's feedback.

If you are starting out, the extensive documentation and learning resources help: the free Learn courses draw every example on a real chart, and the how to use ChartingLens guide walks through every panel. Plans and limits are on the pricing page.

The Honest Take

You can trade well on $15 a month. ChartingLens Premium covers charts, screening, alerts, AI and backtesting for $14.99, and the free plan is enough to find out whether you need it. TradingView Essential makes sense if you cannot live without a particular Pine Script, TC2000 Silver if you are a scan builder, and Stock Rover if you invest on fundamentals. Everything else on most "best tools" lists is priced for traders who already know exactly why they need it. If cost is the reason you are leaving a platform, switching from TradingView walks through the move.
