How the Screener Works

The ChartingLens Stock Screener runs entirely server-side. When you set your filters and hit search, the query is processed on our servers against Yahoo Finance data, and the matching results are returned to your browser. This architecture means you get fast, reliable results regardless of how many filters you apply or how many stocks match your criteria.

Unlike client-side screeners that download entire datasets to your browser and filter locally (which is slow and limited), our server-side approach can scan the full universe of stocks and return results with pagination — so you never hit a wall or run out of results.

Fundamental Filters

The screener includes 12 fundamental filters that cover the most important metrics for evaluating a company's financial health, valuation, and growth characteristics. You can use any combination of these filters simultaneously.

Sector — filter by Technology, Healthcare, Financials, Energy, Consumer Discretionary, Industrials, and more. Useful for sector-specific strategies or avoiding certain industries.
Market Cap — set minimum and maximum market capitalization to focus on large caps, mid caps, small caps, or micro caps. Great for traders who specialize in a particular size category.
P/E Ratio — price-to-earnings ratio filters help you find undervalued stocks (low P/E) or screen out overvalued ones. Set a range to target specific valuation bands.
EPS Growth — earnings per share growth rate filters for companies with accelerating earnings. Set a minimum to find high-growth companies or filter for positive-only growth.
Dividend Yield — find income-producing stocks by setting a minimum dividend yield, or exclude dividend payers entirely for growth-focused strategies.
Beta — volatility relative to the market. High-beta stocks move more than the market (good for active traders), while low-beta stocks are more stable (good for conservative portfolios).
P/B Ratio — price-to-book ratio helps identify stocks trading near or below their book value, a classic value investing metric.
ROE — return on equity measures how efficiently a company generates profit from shareholders' equity. High ROE typically indicates a competitive advantage.
Debt/Equity — the debt-to-equity ratio reveals how leveraged a company is. Low values indicate conservative financing; high values may signal risk or aggressive growth.
Profit Margin — net profit margin shows what percentage of revenue becomes profit. Higher margins generally indicate pricing power and operational efficiency.
PEG Ratio — the price/earnings-to-growth ratio adjusts P/E for the company's growth rate. A PEG below 1.0 is often considered undervalued relative to growth.
Average Volume — filter by minimum average daily trading volume to ensure adequate liquidity. Essential for day traders and swing traders who need clean entries and exits.

Technical Indicator Filters

Beyond fundamentals, the screener includes 3 technical indicator filters that let you find stocks with specific chart conditions. These filters can be applied in single timeframe or dual timeframe mode for more precise signals.

MACD

Filter for stocks where the MACD line has recently crossed above or below the signal line. A bullish MACD crossover is one of the most widely followed momentum signals, and screening for it across the entire market surfaces fresh opportunities you might otherwise miss.

Stochastic

Find stocks where the Stochastic oscillator is in oversold territory (below 20) or overbought territory (above 80), or where a bullish or bearish crossover has just occurred. Stochastic filters are particularly useful for mean-reversion strategies and swing trade entries.

ADX

The Average Directional Index measures trend strength regardless of direction. Filter for stocks with ADX above a threshold (e.g., 25) to find strongly trending stocks, or below a threshold to find range-bound stocks ripe for a breakout.

Dual Timeframe Mode

Each technical filter can be applied on a single timeframe or in dual timeframe mode. For example, you could screen for stocks with a bullish MACD crossover on the daily chart AND an ADX above 25 on the weekly chart. Dual timeframe confirmation significantly reduces false signals and finds higher-probability setups.

Result Cards

Each stock that matches your screen is displayed as a result card with the essential information you need to decide whether it is worth further analysis.

Ticker and Company Name — instantly identify the stock
Sector Badge — color-coded sector label for quick visual categorization
Key Metrics — the primary metrics you filtered on (P/E, Market Cap, Dividend Yield, etc.) are shown directly on the card so you can compare results without clicking into each one
Price and Change — current price and daily percentage change, color-coded green or red
Click-to-Chart — click any result card to immediately load that stock's full chart with all your saved indicators and drawing tools

Results can be sorted by Market Cap, P/E Ratio, Dividend Yield, Price Change, or Volume. Premium users get unlimited results with automatic pagination, while free users see the top results from each screen.

Screener Strategies

The screener is a flexible tool that supports many different trading and investing approaches. Here are some popular screening strategies to get you started.

Value Investing Screen

Set P/E below 15, P/B below 1.5, ROE above 15%, and Debt/Equity below 0.5. This classic value screen finds profitable companies trading at reasonable valuations with conservative balance sheets — the kind of stocks Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett look for.

Growth Momentum Screen

Set EPS Growth above 20%, Market Cap above $1B, and add a bullish MACD crossover on the daily chart. This finds mid-to-large cap companies with strong earnings growth that are also showing fresh technical momentum — a combination of fundamental quality and chart timing.

Dividend Income Screen

Set Dividend Yield above 3%, Profit Margin above 10%, and Debt/Equity below 1.0. This finds reliable dividend payers with healthy margins and manageable debt — companies more likely to sustain and grow their dividends over time.

Swing Trade Setup Screen

Set Average Volume above 500,000, Beta above 1.2, and add a Stochastic oversold condition on the daily chart with ADX above 20 on the weekly. This finds liquid, volatile stocks that are pulling back within an established trend — ideal mean-reversion swing trade candidates.

Combine Screener with AI Signals

After running a screen, add the results to a watchlist and check each stock's CL Score and AI Buy Signal status. Stocks that pass both your fundamental/technical screen and the AI signal system represent a powerful confluence of human and machine analysis.
