Sidebar Overview

When you load any stock on ChartingLens, the sidebar displays the most important fundamental data points at a glance. This gives you instant context about the company without having to open a separate research tool or financial website.

• P/E Ratio — price-to-earnings ratio, the most widely used valuation metric. Tells you how much investors are paying per dollar of earnings.
• EPS — earnings per share, showing the company's profitability on a per-share basis. Useful for comparing companies of different sizes.
• Analyst Target Price — the consensus price target from Wall Street analysts, giving you a quick reference for where professionals expect the stock to trade.
• Earnings Date — the next scheduled earnings report date, so you always know when the next major catalyst is coming.
• Pre/Post Market Price — extended hours pricing and percentage change when markets are closed, so you can see overnight moves and gap setups.
• Market Cap — the total market capitalization, giving you a sense of the company's size category (large cap, mid cap, small cap, micro cap).
• Dividend Yield — the annual dividend yield as a percentage, shown when the company pays a dividend.

Click the "Show More" button in the sidebar to open a comprehensive information modal. This is where ChartingLens goes deep — giving you the kind of data that would normally require a Bloomberg terminal or a dedicated financial data subscription.

Analyst Recommendations & Price Targets

The analyst section aggregates recommendations from Wall Street research firms and displays the consensus view in a clear, visual format. You can see how many analysts rate the stock as a buy, hold, or sell, and compare the current price against the average target.

• Consensus Rating — the aggregate recommendation (Strong Buy, Buy, Hold, Sell, Strong Sell) based on all covering analysts
• Average Target Price — the mean of all analyst price targets, representing the consensus fair value estimate
• High / Low Targets — the most bullish and most bearish analyst targets, showing the full range of professional expectations
• Number of Analysts — how many analysts are actively covering the stock. Higher coverage typically means more reliable consensus data.
• Upside / Downside — the percentage difference between the current price and the average target, instantly telling you whether analysts see the stock as undervalued or overvalued

Institutional & Insider Ownership

Understanding who owns a stock provides valuable context about the investment thesis and potential future price action.

• Institutional Ownership % — the percentage of outstanding shares held by institutional investors (mutual funds, hedge funds, pension funds, etc.). High institutional ownership often indicates professional confidence in the company.
• Number of Institutional Holders — the total count of institutional investors holding shares. A large number of holders suggests broad interest, while a small number might indicate a less-followed stock with potential for discovery.
• Insider Ownership % — the percentage of shares held by corporate insiders (officers, directors, major shareholders). High insider ownership aligns management's interests with shareholders.
• Insider Transactions — quick access to recent insider buys and sells, linking directly to the full Insider Trading Data feature for deeper analysis.

Sector & Industry Comparisons

Every stock exists within a sector and industry context. The Stock Information modal shows you how the company compares to its peers on key metrics, so you can tell whether a P/E of 25 is expensive or cheap relative to the industry average.

• Sector and Industry — the company's classification, so you can quickly identify which part of the economy it operates in
• Peer Companies — a list of comparable companies in the same industry, with key metrics shown side by side for easy comparison
• Relative Valuation — see how the company's P/E, P/B, and other ratios compare to the sector median. A stock that looks expensive in absolute terms may actually be cheap relative to its peers.

Company Profile

The company profile section provides the background information you need to understand what the business actually does. This is especially useful when you encounter an unfamiliar ticker from a screener result, AI signal, or insider buying alert.

• Business Description — a concise summary of what the company does, its products and services, and its market position
• Employee Count — the number of full-time employees, giving you a sense of the company's scale and operational footprint
• Headquarters — where the company is based, relevant for understanding regulatory exposure and geographic risk
• Website — a direct link to the company's website for further research
• Exchange and Currency — where the stock trades and in what currency, important for international stocks

How to Use Stock Information in Your Workflow

Pre-Trade Research

Before entering any trade, check the Stock Information sidebar for the basics: P/E, EPS, earnings date, and analyst target. This takes five seconds and prevents you from being blindsided by an earnings report you did not know was coming, or from buying a stock that every analyst rates as a sell.

Earnings Season Preparation

When earnings season approaches, use the earnings date field to identify which of your watchlist stocks are reporting soon. Open the detailed modal to review recent income statements and cash flow trends so you know what the market is expecting before the report drops.

Fundamental Validation

When a technical setup looks good on the chart, use the financial statements to validate the thesis. A breakout on strong revenue growth and expanding margins is far more likely to follow through than one backed by deteriorating fundamentals.
